Speed Demon

Although I'm a fast walker, I'm a very slow painter. This blog has largely been an exercise in speeding up, letting go of some of my perfectionist & horror-vacui tendencies, & getting out of my own way. It's been a struggle (& to be honest, I'm still struggling) but I have learned an awful lot & had loads of fun.

And I can hardly believe it, but I'm coming down the home stretch! My next post (7 June 2012) will mark one year of oddments.* My, how those days hurried by!

Acrylic on text scanned from The Complete Instructor in Boxing, Swimming, Gymnastics, Pedestrianism, Horse Racing, Prize Fighting, Boat Raceing (sic) and Other Sports, 1881. The title is almost longer than the book. ;-)

* I'll be doing something special for the anniversary. Stay tuned!

  1. Let me be a bit early in extending my congratulations...I've enjoyed every single post; your work is so beautiful and unique. I recently spent an evening going through an amazing old suitcase that belonged to my husbnd's grandfather. There were papers from his days on the railroad, his trips to Paris as a soldier in WWI, and tons of old, brittle maps and letters. And all the while, I kept thinking about the amazing things you would "see" in those pieces of paper!

  2. Awesome! I love the see-through effect you're achieving with acrylics and the glow.

  3. Get yourself a toddler to watch you paint and it will speed up your painting immensely. I need a way to slow mine down.

  4. Early Congratulation on one year! I think it's great the reason why you started your blog and ways to let go of perfection. I can relate! Cool speed demon!

  8. Haha, I'm afraid I also noticed the shapely buttocks and thighs. Does that say something about me? Another great character! So funny about the title of the book! And congratulations on a year! I recently hit a year (though with fewer posts) and I just can't believe it has been so long.
