Fresh Squeezed

I've never been a good salesperson. I remember working in a dress shop for about two weeks as a teenager & cringing through every second of it. Luckily a job opened up in the public library & I was off like a shot! I'm sure my departure was as much of a relief for the shop owner as it was for me. Though maybe if I'd stayed, my dismal sales skills would have improved eventually...

But they didn't. And I'm even worse when it comes to selling my own art. Mind you, I definitely love it when people buy my work! I just hate the selling part.

So it has taken me years to gird my loins to set up an Etsy shop, but I've finally done it! The shop is called Curious Art Lab. I'll be listing pieces somewhat randomly & gradually so if there are Oddments you'd like to see there please let me know.

Okay, sales pitch over, whew!

  1. Congratulations, that's a great start. Now please leave me alone and stop hounding me. No solicitors!

    Ha Ha... I kid.

    You'll do well.

Opening a new shop is ALWAYS a big event. Is there some party going on? I will take a bottle of wine ..... and of course some flowers...

    Congratulations!

  6. Oh gosh...you're not alone in your abhorrence of selling. I'd wager that most artsy types kind of hate it. But I, for one, am thrilled that you took the plunge and opened up a shop. I plan on checking it out right now! I'm catching up on blog visits today, and am so excited to see that you've let us in on the mystery behind your latest series - what a fabulous website; I will definitely be visiting that one often. And I adore the face on the spoon, by the way...

  7. Oh yes. I often find the best artist to be the most shy about selling their work! Ah just keep at it. Your work is beautiful.

Mr. Lemon up there needs his thighs squeezed. Heheheh.

  8. Hi I jumped over here from AWAD because I noticed your art work there on the side and was intrigued by it. It is quite wonderful. Now I shall jump over to take a peek at your etsy shop. Good luck with your sales and I am in agreement with you on sales versus making art. Lorna at Artymess and I have done trades in the past. It is more satisfying that way. Although cold hard cash has a lot going for it too! Good luck.

  9. Congrats on the Etsy shop! I agree...selling is the HARD part. I have a shop at Etsy...with nothing in it ... go figure.
Good luck with it . All of you work is marvelous!!!!!

  10. I found you through AWAD as well. Are you going to be selling the "Redolent" picture? I think that one is so funny! I really like your imaginative art work.

  11. Thank you all for your kind words & support! Etsy has been a great experience so far, despite the absolute panic of the computer crash that first week... :-O

And Ntrue, I really appreciate the heads-up on "Redolent"-- I sold all the listed prints & completely forgot to renew it! Guess I'm still not much of a salesperson. %} But it's back up there now. Thanks!
